Common Tree Removal Scenarios
A dead tree is one that has lost its living tissue and structural strength. Among Cedar Mill’s heavy tree cover, a dead tree is a real hazard as it decays and threatens nearby homes.
Dead trees also spread pests and rot to the dense canopy around them.
As unincorporated land, dead-tree removal on private property generally needs no city permit, so Monkeyman’s can handle it cleanly.
An overgrown tree is a healthy tree that has outgrown its space. Cedar Mill’s dense canopy means trees frequently crowd homes and utilities.
The owner is responsible for safe removal when a tree endangers property.
Monkeyman’s handles overgrown removals and advises whether pruning resolves it.
A diseased tree carries an infection that weakens it from within. The wooded, damp setting fuels root rot, heart rot, and Verticillium wilt, especially in firs.
These infections are hard to detect early and spread easily in dense stands.
Monkeyman’s ISA Certified Arborists diagnose, contain, and remove trees beyond saving.
A storm-damaged tree has been cracked, split, or uprooted by wind, ice, or debris. Cedar Mill’s mature trees are vulnerable to storm damage.
More than 50% crown loss usually means removal, though resilient trees often survive.
Monkeyman’s evaluates whether a tree can recover before recommending removal.
Emergency tree removal is the 24/7 response needed when a tree has fallen, or threatens to, onto a home, vehicle, or power line.
In tight, wooded settings, Monkeyman’s uses crane support through Smith Crane for hazardous removals.
When a tree falls on your Cedar Mill property, we respond day or night.
View clearing is the selective removal or pruning of trees that block a scenic sightline. Cedar Mill’s tree cover often blocks otherwise good views.
The work opens the sightline while preserving the canopy that defines the area.
Monkeyman’s selectively clears the trees in the way while protecting your remaining trees.
Lot clearing is the systematic removal of trees and brush to prepare a site for building. Cedar Mill’s wooded lots require careful clearing.
Trees that can’t be felled directly are removed in sections.
Monkeyman’s handles residential and commercial sites, working efficiently even on heavily treed parcels.

FAQ
Washington County, since Cedar Mill is unincorporated. County rules differ from neighboring Beaverton and Portland, and the creek corridors and steeper wooded areas here carry additional natural resource protections. We confirm what applies to your address before work is scoped.
Across the area — Cedar Mill proper, Bonny Slope, Bethany-side addresses, the neighborhoods off Cornell and Saltzman, and the wooded properties along the Cedar Mill Creek corridor.
Yes, and that’s much of what Cedar Mill is. Long or steep driveways, homes tucked into mature canopy, and no room for large equipment mean climb-and-rig removals with compact machines and hand-carried debris where needed. Access shapes the method and timeline, not whether the job is doable.
Creek corridors here carry protections that restrict removal and vegetation disturbance within the buffer, and mitigation may be required where work is approved. Those roots are also stabilizing the bank — removing them can cost you more in erosion than the tree ever threatened. We identify the line and work to it.
The heavy canopy that makes the area attractive also keeps humidity high and light low, which favors fungal disease and heavy moss load, and suppresses understory trees competing for light. Selective thinning for airflow and light — not topping — is usually what these properties need.
