Common Tree Removal Scenarios
Dead Tree Removal
A dead tree is one that has lost its living tissue and structural strength, and on a Raleigh Hills lot it’s a fall risk and pest host as it decays.
A dead tree near a home can cause damage if it fails in a storm.
As unincorporated land, private-property dead-tree removal generally needs no city permit, so Monkeyman’s can handle it simply.
An overgrown tree is a healthy tree that has outgrown its space. Raleigh Hills’ established, leafy lots often see trees threaten homes or fences.
The owner is responsible for safe removal when a tree endangers property.
Monkeyman’s handles overgrown removals and advises when pruning is enough.
A diseased tree carries an infection that weakens it from within. The area’s damp climate fosters root rot, heart rot, and Verticillium wilt.
These infections are hard to detect early and can spread.
Monkeyman’s ISA Certified Arborists diagnose, contain, and remove trees beyond saving.
A storm-damaged tree has been cracked, split, or uprooted by wind, ice, or debris. Storms damage Raleigh Hills’ mature trees.
More than 50% crown loss usually means removal, though resilient trees often survive.
Monkeyman’s evaluates survivability before recommending removal.
Emergency tree removal is the 24/7 response needed when a tree has fallen, or threatens to, onto a home, vehicle, or power line.
For hazardous removals, Monkeyman’s uses crane support through Smith Crane.
When a tree falls on your Raleigh Hills property, we respond day or night.
View clearing is the selective removal or pruning of trees that block a scenic sightline. Some Raleigh Hills properties on higher ground have views worth opening.
The work preserves the trees you want to keep.
Monkeyman’s selectively clears blocking trees while protecting your canopy.
Lot clearing is the systematic removal of trees and brush to prepare a site for building.
Sectional removal is used where trees can’t be felled directly.
Monkeyman’s handles residential and commercial infill sites on schedule.

FAQ
Raleigh Hills is unincorporated Washington County, so county rules apply, but the area borders both Portland and Beaverton, and parcels close to those lines can fall under different requirements than a neighbor two streets away. This is one of the areas where verifying the actual jurisdiction genuinely matters.
Raleigh Hills proper, Raleigh West, the neighborhoods off Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway and Scholls Ferry, West Slope-side addresses, and the wooded hillside properties toward the Portland city edge.
Yes. Sloped lots with tight or steep driveways are routine here. We use compact equipment, ground protection on lawns and drives, and climb-and-rig removal where a truck can’t get close. Where a crane is the safer option we’ll say so and price it, rather than forcing a riskier method.
An inventory before any single decision. Raleigh Hills carries substantial mid-century canopy that has grown up around the homes, and the useful question is which trees are structurally sound, which need reduction or deadwood work, and which are genuinely hazardous. That ordering usually keeps more canopy and costs less than reacting tree by tree.
Root flare buried by decades of added soil and mulch, trunk cavities and fungal conks at the base, co-dominant stems with included bark that split under load, and heavy limbs extending over roofs. Any of those warrant an assessment: several are treatable if they’re caught before the storm rather than after.
