For smaller private tree removals and many private tree trimming jobs throughout the Portland Metropolitan area a tree permit wont be necessary. However, a tree that has been removed may need to be replaced with a new tree, and in many cases the city you are in will require a tree removal permit and a plan for replanting. If you are looking to remove a city street tree, you will definitely need a permit.
Below are resources that we have compiled to assist you with finding the right tree permits for your city or county and the type of work you are looking to have done. In our experience, it is usually best to call the city or county and ask if you need to have a permit.
Please note that in cases where a permit is required for tree work we will not proceed if the proper permit has not been secured.
